REAL Christians Will NOT Watch The Super Bowl

God's most important man on earth, after Davey Pack, is back tossing deflated footballs at COG members who will be gathering to watch the Super Bowl.  It's a pagan filthy celebration that REAL Christians would dream of watching.

This coming Sunday is known as “Super Bowl Sunday” in the USA. Most years, the American football (which is not the same as the sport called soccer in the USA) contest known as the Superbowl is the most watched television program in the USA. Between 100,000,000-200,000,000 are expected to intentionally (as opposed to perhaps seeing a news item about it) watch at least some of it today according to various reports.

Self appointed false prophet Bob  Thiel is back spitting spittle about the dangers of football and how it causes people to not "love their neighbor."
9…You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. (Romans 13:9-10, NKJV)
The Super Bowl will do harm to participants in it.
The New Testament also warns Christians against being violent or approving of those that are (Romans 1:28-32), while history records that early Christians would not watch violent sports. Notice one such report from Theophilus of Antioch perhaps written about 180 A.D.:
Consider, therefore, whether those who teach such things can possibly live indifferently, and be commingled in unlawful intercourse, or, most impious of all, eat human flesh, especially when we are forbidden so much as to witness shows of gladiators, lest we become partakers and abettors of murdersBut neither may we see the other spectacles, lest our eyes and ears be defiled, participating in the utterances there sung. (Theophilus of Antioch. To Autolycus, Book III, Chapter XV. Translated by Marcus Dods, A.M. Excerpted from Ante-Nicene Fathers, Volume 2. Edited by Alexander Roberts & James Donaldson. American Edition, 1885. Online Edition)
So, Christians did not believe that they were to watch the violent sports so popular in the second century.

Get on your knees and repent from watching this blasphemy!  But if you sneak a peak remember that Passover is approaching and you will be forgiven.  So enjoy!

So does Thiel thereby validate Theopilus of Antioch as a source, or does he also cite him elsewhere as a "pagan" and "false so called Christian"?

The reason Pack and Thiel are against football is that both of them are suffering from DEFLATED BALLS!

Someone will be murdered for the Superbowl?

Half-time show, perhaps?

The so-called "Patriots" got to the Super Bowl with FLACCID footballs! That is NOT God's way!

Oh brother I can't believe I'm going to have to defend football cause other wise I could give a flip about it but there is no comparison between modern day football and the Romans trained to be gladiators to kill. Oh, shut the front door David Pack!

And Jesus whipped the money changers in the temple. Why don't Bob speak out on this?

"we are forbidden so much as to witness shows of gladiators, lest we become partakers and abettors of murders. But neither may we see the other spectacles, lest our eyes and ears be defiled"

Bob should stick to Romans. Why should reports from Theophilus of Antioch carry any weight at all? Who are christians supposed to follow, Jesus and/or the NT texts, or other people who claim to be christians? Evangelicals claim to be christians. Can we follow them? Oh. We have to wait 2,000 years first, then we can follow them? Hmm. I wonder what else christians were doing circa 180AD. Because now Bob has opened a floodgate. ANYTHING that christians were doing in circa 180AD, christians today can get away with as well, right?

Who was forbidding these early christians from going to watch the gladiator shows? Some fundy bishop with his toga in a twist? How many of these early christians went anyway? You always know the "cool" people will be out doing on the down-low whatever has been "forbidden."

And what will happen to if you do happen to watch the superbowl by "accident"? I guess you'll be "defiled" until, like was mentioned, you deleaven your house, eat a cracker, drink a thimble full of wine, and say you're "sorry." Then it's all good and you can be "clean" again. No problem. Do what you want, then as long as you "feel bad" for it, say the rosary 10 times, or whatever, "repent," and you'll definitely go to heaven. Isn't that what the ministurds do? Lie, cheat, steal, rinse and repeat = go to heaven? This is what christianity has always been, even in 180AD.

Life is like a T-shirt. I mean, if you buy a T-shirt, and it *never* gets dirty, then you probably shouldn't have bought it, right? If you don't spend all your time being "defiled" (according to christians) by one thing or another, can you say you're even alive?

Imagine a world with-out sports and some of the other entertainment that some of the COG leaders would ban if they had the power to do so.

We need a diversion from the daily stress of life or a brake from some of the tedious daily duties we have in our lives.

I was on a long road trip today, hydroplaning up and down the interstate in the rain. Somehow I knew that when I made it back home, Bob Thiel's words of wisdom on football would be waiting for me. If nothing else, the man is boring in his sheer predictability, and downright inconsequentialness!

Dr. Thiel could have found far more relevant reasons to preach against SB-49 than this.

Such as the obscene gestures players make after scoring touchdowns. Or the cheating with footballs by... well, somebody.

Or the fact that "preacher's kid" turned pop idol Katy Perry is singing at the half. Who knows how risque that could be?!

Not to mention the gluttony of football parties.

Thankfully, Aussie Rules Football season is only a few weeks away.

No matter who you are, you need to know about the world around you. To not do so is to leave yourself open to things that you know nothing about, things that are nearly subliminal, but can impact your life.

As an example, back in the 1970s, my brother was getting a complex, because every time he hitchhiked, gay guys were the only ones who offered him a ride. Once, he had to order one of them to stop the car and to let him out at knifepoint! I really didn't know what to say, or how to help him, because when I first told him about hitchhiking, I had more or less told him that it was a way to meet girls.

Anyway, I consulted with a buddy of mine at work who had a band that played in clubs all over L.A. about this, because I figured that he had many more of life's experiences to draw upon. The first thing he asked me was how my brother dressed. Since he had partially grown up in Texas, my brother usually wore a cowboy hat, black leather jacket, white Levis, and moccassins. The moment I shared that with my buddy Jay, he said, "Jeez, Bob, that's right out of Midnight Cowboy! Don't you guys ever go to the movies?"
